Well every year NEWGEN bring together a collective of distintive designers to the On Schedule Fashion Week, showing the progress of the young generation aswell as the aspiring individuals work who they feel showcase real talent.
18 Budding designers are selected by the British Fashion Council to receive the NewGen sponsorship. In its 19th consecutive season, Topshop continues to support the NewGen scheme, which show will take place during London Fashion Week in February 2011.
Established in 1993, NewGen is an internationally acclaimed talent initiative, and its alumni include Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson, Boudicca, and Giles Deacon to name but a few.
Sarah Mower, BFC’s Ambassador for Emerging Talent, said: “It is inspiring to see the vibrant sense of community as well as creativity amongst our NewGen designers. With every season, we’re seeing them grow as business-people who are selling to the top luxury goods retailers of the world – and since so many of them are now manufacturing their collections in the UK, they are making a really exciting contribution to employment and export.”
The thing im always interested to see is how many of these designers start to employ more ready to wear products or are they enforced to focus on one of items that honestly can only ever be shown but not worn.
London Fashion Week will run from Friday 18th February – Wednesday 23rd February 2011 and will be located at Somerset House, Strand WC2.
IS NEWGEN AS EFFECTIVE AS THEY SAY IT IS?
