Joining the abundance of music related applications available now online, Twitter aims to capitalize on its ubiquitous following and launch an offshoot dedicated to music streaming and search.
The online platform bought music sharing service We Are Hunted last year and is adapting its technology to build its own standalone music app, which could be launched as soon as the end of March this year. Aptly entitled Twitter Music, the app aims to cater to each Twitter user’s specific interest – via which artist they follow on Twitter – by suggesting artist and songs based on personal preference – somewhat similar to Last.fm’s “related artists” service.
The app will feature four main tabs; the “Suggestion” tab, “Popular,” “Emerging” and a #NowPlaying category to find out what music the people you follow are tweeting. As Twitter plunges into the capricious realm of digital music technology, only time will tell if it has the legs to compete against already existing services like Spotify and Pandora but with a strong base of music artists already on twitter this looks to be a safe bet.
DO YOU THINK THIS WILL BE A GOOD IDEA?
