Y-3

FASHION | Y-3 2012 FALL/WINTER COLLECTION EDITORIAL

Ten years ago……… Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas combined to create something that was brand new to the fashion world. Y-3 continues to stride forward with its new 2012 fall/winter collection. They move away from the sportswear-inclined items of the past with a much more gritty and urban look to the season. Leopard print, something that always seems to make an appearance in adidas collaborations, manages to stay very obvious, along with a range of olive drab militaristic-styled outerwear, preppy knitwear and an interestingly designed suit. Footwear is also still prominent, with nine different creations set for release.

Fashion | Yohji Yamamoto ‘THIS IS MY DREAM’

Japanese fashion design icon Yohji Yamamoto lets his guard down in an exclusive, intimate short documentary film about life and the creative process, from Tokyo to New York. Opening up about his artistic motivations, his love of music, and that his real interest is not actually fashion itself but the cut and art of the garment.

Fan of Y-3? If so why?

Fashion | Y-3 Take It To The Streets

Just things like this inspire me to keep producing and thinking of creative ideas that stand for something and make either existing or new consumers talk about our brand. Check out the size of this billboard and video that Y-3 have done;

For a month, Y-3’s new SS11 campaign is taking over the corner of Houston Street and Broadway in New York City’s Soho neighbourhood. To launch the campaign with painted billboard, Y-3 produced a time-lapse video showing the creation of the massive signage.

The billboard takes up a space of 48 x 38 feet, and was painted by Colossal Media Group. It features an image from the Y-3’s communication campaign for SS11 shot by Jacob Sutton, and styled by Jay Massacret featuring model Jacob Coupe.
The high-speed video showcases the painting being done over a few days time compressed down to one minute.

HOW MUCH RESPONSE WILL YOU THINK Y-3 WILL GET BECAUSE OF THIS BILLBOARD?

NYC Fashion Week | Y-3 Rock n’ Roll SS11

I selected only 3 items to view , Y-3 SS11 was endless with some pieces that honestly looked very simliar to each other but these 3 stood out for me, not only the color but the design cut on them looks real nice with just that little detail making them that finished piece.

Even though Y-3 designer Yohji Yamamoto was absent from the presentation, staying in Tokyo instead to complete his womenswear collection, Y-3 took over the catwalk in true rock ‘n roll style.

Funnily enough all the women pieces were all revealing which when you think of rock n’ roll people would go out dressed like this to late night parties and bars in around town with one another.

Taking inspiration from the icons of music history for an explosive collection of hard-core looks. From lambskin leather motorcycle vests to tailored military jackets, Y-3’s Spring/Summer 2011 show took a tour through three decades of rock style, sending a model army of Janis Joplins, Elvis Presleys, and Jimi Hendrixes out onto the runway.

Presented on Sunday, September 12th as part of New York fashion week, the collection explored the power and escapism of rock and roll, a theme that was underscored with a live sound track courtesy of British band The Duke Spirit. Guests including Bambou and Lulu Gainsbourg, Alison Brie, Liberty Ross, Leigh Lezark, Geordon Nicol, and the Wonder Girls jammed out to the group’s hard-stomping sound.

Rock music and sex appeal go hand in hand, and neither was in short supply. Y-3 proposed cropped tanks for both men and women, and, for the girls, flowing sarong skirts and tight black leggings that erupted almost erotically into a spray of ruffles at the knee. The rest of the show presented intriguing contrasts of volume-tight on top, loose on bottom, and vice versa-in classic Yamamoto fashion.

IS FASHION BECOMING MORE IDOLISED ON SET THEMES ?

Y-3 x Zinedine Zidane

1 of the Greatest footballers to ever grace the footballing stage has now graced Adidas Y-3 with his presence in their NEW A/W 10-11 Collection. Footballer Zinedine Zidane is starring in the new AW10 mood film of Y-3. The film flick is deeply rooted in the emotional context of a fashion photograph that is classical yet modern.

The campaign presents a direct fashion correlation married with an abstract representation of the team Zinedine Zidane along a group of models. Black and white photography coupled with contrasts of lightness and darkness creates a dramatic and poetic story.  The concept allows for the opportunity to showcase movement and product, exhibiting the fusion of a sport inspired, high-end fashion brand.

Y3 – Pop Up Store

Pop up stores are the ‘In’ thing right about now with the likes of Gucci and several other brands opening them up in all different parts of the World. Y3 have taken their products to the South of France, Cannes. Following its global retail concepts of minimalist black and white, Y3 opened its first pop-up store in Cannes, France. The temporary store is launched in collaboration with blanch& and located at the new blanch& Contemporary Space on Boulevard de la Croisette. The venue has a multifunctional structure and houses an innovative project which allows luxury brands to occupy the building from one to three months.

Y3 x Adidas – Opening Art Store

Adidas marketing strategy is second to none. They continually come out with very strong products and innovative ideas that give their wide audience constant updates on whats new with them. They have now showscased thier S/S10 collection, unveiled for the first time at the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre, was highlighted with a bold lighting concept and soccer pattern projections, to celebrate the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup. This season, Mr. Yamamoto and adidas explored an intellectual approach to the game of soccer. Pairing the designer’s wit and intellect with the brand’s innovation, the show included exaggerated silhouettes, loose-cut trousers and abstract flag motifs in the colourways of eight soccer federations sponsored by adidas: South Africa, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, France and Russia.

On the collection Yamamoto commented: “When soccer players shoot and hit the goal, the net swings into a beautiful shape. This inspired a series of laser-cut T-shirts and dresses that captured the same movement.” Now thats an inpiration. LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS

Y-3 x Addidas = Explosive Garments

Y-3 teamed up with Addidas as per usual to not only showcase some superb designs but the showcase itself was different and vibrant as London Fashion Week shows themselves tend to be. With them having the likes of Ciara and Footballing legend Zidane at their front row seats at nearly every show Y-3 are definetly a force to be reckoned with. Showcased garments as you will see in their Spring 2010 inculde net wear fitted tops, ripped t.shirts, baggy but fitted y-3 joggers and many more. Each and everyday we look at fashion as it is growing by the second and the range of wear is superb from each and every designer. Why? well because they have a vision, a vision that leads them to create a new collection but with a twist everytime which can put them in poll position to dictate the market we live and style in.
